Office of Residence Life

Telephone Service

The Telecommunications Office operates and maintains Rensselaer's privately owned telephone system. All student residence halls come equipped with telephone and voice mail service. If the phone in your room isn't working properly please call the Help Desk at ext. 7777. If you are missing your telephone altogether, or if you are missing a telephone cord, you may pick up these items in Residence Life.

On-campus and local calls are free. For long distance calls, each student is issued an authorization code. Students are then billed on their tuition bill for calls placed with their authorization code. Long distance rates for calls within the continental United States are very competitive. International rates vary based on what country you are calling, but we think that you'll find many of our international rates much lower than industry standards.

Your long distance authorization code is for your own private use and should be kept in a safe place. Never give others access to your authorization code.

For information regarding the use of telephone services, students should contact the Office of Telecommunications by calling 276-6609. For detailed information on the services we provide, you may want to refer to the Telecommunications web site.
