Upper-class and graduate students returning for the fall semester apply for housing during the previous spring. Currently, an assignment may be obtained through an all-campus lottery, by invitation into a room or apartment, by exercising squatter's rights, or by reapplying directly to Residence Life and being assigned during the summer.
On-campus housing at Rensselaer is a privilege and not a right. Rensselaer may, at its sole discretion, refuse to assign campus housing to any student, regardless of any previous housing relationship a student may have had or any "squatters' rights".
Policies related to room selection and assignments (e.g., lottery, invitation, and squatters' rights) are reviewed each year and may be changed. Early in the spring term, students receive information about the policies and procedures for upper-class room assignments for the following academic year. Students are advised to make careful note of the dates and deadlines.
