Office of Residence Life

Smoke-free Housing

** IMPORTANT POLICY CHANGE **

As of May 20, 2007, the policy stated below will be in affect for all on-campus residential facilities (including apartments). By signing a housing contract, you agree to abide by all policies stated in the Residence Guide.

In keeping with a desire to protect the health of its faculty, staff, students, visitors, other campus constituencies, and the public in general, it is Rensselaer's policy to provide a smoke-free environment to the maximum extent possible and in full conformance with the New York State Public Health Law, Article 13-E (Clean Indoor Air Act).

Smoking is prohibited in all residential areas. The prohibition includes apartments and residence halls - public areas, including waiting rooms, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, etc.

Additionally, persons who smoke outside the residence halls must do so 25' from the building or any extending wall, awning, or other building feature, or where it is otherwise posted.
