Community information
RecreationMost of the family housing apartments are surrounded by open grass and woods. Three different play areas have been installed for children of the community. Basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts, athletic fields, and the all-weather track are within easy walking distance. Picnic tables and grills are set up outside of the community center for residents' use. Each spring an area of land is tilled to provide garden plots for up to 70 families. Athletic facilities for most indoor sports are found in the Alumni Sports and Recreation Center and Gymnasium. The Rensselaer Union offers indoor activities such as table tennis, billiards, bowling, and numerous club activities and organizations. The Married Students OrganizationThe Married Students Organization (MSO) is a Rensselaer Union-recognized club offering programs for family students, their spouses, and children. All Rensselaer-affiliated persons are welcome at their meetings and events. The MSO works with various Rensselaer administrative offices such as the Office of Residence Life, the Office of International Education Services, and the Dean of Students Office in order to create and improve programs for family students at Rensselaer. The MSO also publishes a monthly newsletter to inform residents of events and programs offered by the club and the community center. The Community CenterThe Community Center is located within the Family Housing Area and is available for various activities, including club meetings, community dinners, parties, study groups, and children's movies.
