LaundryEach residential area has its own laundry room, equipped with washers and dryers. Portable appliances are allowed in individual apartments provided that existing wiring and plumbing are not altered. TelephonesAll student apartments provide local telephone service and voice
mail that is included in the apartment rent. Students are issued a
personal access code for long distance calls and are billed
directly.
ParkingAlthough Rensselaer places no limitations as to who may own and operate a motor vehicle on campus, all cars that are parked in campus lots must be registered with the Rensselaer Department of Transportation. Off-campus housingWithin the Capital Region, a number of off-campus housing arrangements are available, from older brownstones in downtown Troy to large apartments and homes in established neighborhoods. Listings of available rooms, apartments, and houses for rent in the Troy area are maintained by the Rensselaer Student Union, 276-6505. They also maintain a web site that can be accessed at http://www.union.rpi.edu/offcampus . All mail is delivered directly to apartments by the U.S. Postal Service. A complete Post Office is operated by the Rensselaer Union. There is also a commercial mail delivery service located in the Commons mailroom. StorageLimited storage is available for residents. All areas have interior closet space. Bryckwyck residents are assigned a storage bin located in the basement. Campus bus serviceDuring the fall and spring terms, the Capital District Transit Authority (CDTA) provides free transportation from the apartments to the main campus as well as many parts of Troy. Schedules and routes are available at the Rensselaer Union and the Rensselaer Department of Transportation, located in the Visitors Information Center.
