Safety

Considerable emphasis is placed on safety at Rensselaer. All residence facilities are equipped with sprinklers and fire and smoke detection equipment, which is able to relay an emergency signal to Public Safety. An ongoing effort is made to help students evaluate their environment and take reasonable precautions to ensure their safety. Student rooms and apartments are inspected by Residence Life staff once per semester and students are encouraged to become involved in the University's Residence Life Safety Program.

Personal Security

Apartment doors should be locked. Periodic patrols are conducted within all residence areas. Residents are encouraged to assist Residence Life by always keeping apartment doors locked.

Personal Property Insurance

Student-owned items are not insured by Rensselaer. Students should carry their own personal insurance on items that may suffer loss or damage. Information about an inexpensive renters insurance policy is available from Residence Life.
