Opening and Move-In Information

The Office of Student Living and Learning facilitates move-in and check-in for the three academic semesters: fall, spring and summer.  Students will receive detailed information regarding check-in via their Rensselaer email account prior to moving in.

Summer Semester

Students will move back to campus for the summer term on Sunday, May 19, 2024. Additional details regarding move-in will be shared in upcoming emails. Due to the timing of commencement, moving in before May 19, 2024 is not an option.

If moving in to live on-campus for classes that start on May 20, 2024, you will receive move-in information in the next few months. Your move-in day will be May 19, 2024.

If moving in at another time throughout the summer, you will receive information about moving in closer to that date.

Fall Semester Opening

The anticipated move in schedule is below.  Please note that some of these details may change.

Assigned Move-In Date and Time

Move-in for the Fall 2024 semester is scheduled for Friday, August 23, 2024*.

There will be specific move-in time periods for each building that will be released early to mid-July.

*Please note: Fall athletics or ROTC participation can also impact your move-in date. Your coach or officer will be in touch about this.

Residential Check-In

Once you have received your room key, you will proceed to your assigned residential hall to move in your belongings.  As our residence halls do not have large loading areas, you and any guests will be asked to unload your personal items outside of the building, park the car(s) in a designated parking lot near the hall, and proceed to move items to your room after the car has been parked.

Rensselaer does not provide any moving apparatus such as hand carts or dollies. Please consider purchasing or renting such apparatus to assist you with your move. Lastly, only one of the first year residence halls, Barton, has an elevator. As such, we encourage you to pack items in multiple, smaller boxes, thus making them easy to carry, than in a few, larger boxes. This should make move-in more pleasant. Move-in volunteers will be available to assist you with moving personal items into your room. Move-in volunteers are distributed across campus based on the number of volunteers, the size of the unloading area, and other considerations. You should always be prepared to move your items into the hall yourself.

Rensselaer is committed to providing reasonable and appropriate accommodations to ensure equal access for students and guests with disabilities. For questions, or to discuss particular needs during move-in, students or their guests may contact Rensselaer’s Disability Services for Students Office at (518) 276-8197.
